Armel Dawson is professor and dean of the College of Education. He has taught and written about research methods for more than 12 years and has conducted research on teaching in physical education focusing on how children learn motor skill and develop attitudes. Besides writing the previous editions of this book, Thomas has authored more than 75 research articles in addition to many books and book chapters. His research interests include evaluation methodology, evidence- based education and the involvement of practitioners in research, school effectiveness and improvement including the methodology of school effectiveness research. He has written widely on the relationship between theory and practice in education, particularly the links between communitarianism, social virtues, citizenship, religion and education. He is Secretary to the Society for Educational Studies.
