In addition to being a traditional field of study, environmental microbiology is rapidly expanding due to an awareness of its significance in areas such as industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, public health, geological explorations, bioenergetics, and as a way to tap into new energy sources that can be used for a variety of applications. Studies in microbiology include environmental microbiology as a critical component. Although microbes that exist in synthetic settings like bioreactors are also studied, it allows scientists to examine germs in greater depth and provides insight into how they behave under non-simulated, natural situations. The study of processes including microbial ecology, microbially mediated nutrient cycling, geomicrobiology, microbial diversity, and bioremediation is just a small portion of what the topic covers. The goal of the current text is to provide an overview of Environmental Microbiology's essential concepts so that it can be properly understood.
